About Us

The community of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Wilmette welcomes you and anyone seeking a place to worship God. Our members come not only from Wilmette, but from Chicago, Evanston, and many other suburbs. Our parish reflects a wide range of ages and stages of life, different races and ethnicities, and many religious or non-religious backgrounds.

At St. A's you will find some people who share your viewpoints and some with other perspectives, but you will always find an atmosphere of love and respect. With a strong tradition of service to our neighbors, lifelong education, worship and music, and community, St. A's is a place for you to feel at home.

We invite you to join us in on Sunday for worship and to visit this website frequently to learn about upcoming events.

Who was St. Augustine?

Our parish honors the name of Augustine (accent on the second syllable), Bishop of Hippo (354-430). A convert to Christianity in his adulthood, this North African scholar was among the most influential Christian theologians; his teaching guides much of what we accept as our own theology today. Augustine saw the church as the spiritual City of God on earth, standing in contrast to the material City of Man. We see our parish in much the same light: we are very involved in the world, yet, we seek to exist as a bit of God’s Kingdom here on earth.
