First Sundays at St. Augustine's

We are blessed at St. Augustine's that a quarter of our members are children and youth under the age of 16, and we delight in having them take part in every aspect of our shared life of faith. On the first Sunday of the month, we make changes to our liturgy to help children and young people more actively participate. The Acts of the Apostles and our Baptismal Covenant invite us to "continue in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, the breaking of bread and the prayers." Liturgy shapes our lives, and we welcome children into their roles as full participants.

On First Sundays, we welcome children to gather at the altar for the eucharistic prayer. We eagerly invite young people throughout the month as readers of scripture, acolytes, ushers, and gift bearers.

Because fellowship and friendship are also an important part of Christian formation, we suspend Church School and adult formation on First Sundays for an extended time of play and fellowship.
