St. Augustine’s offers the Journey to Adulthood program, which includes
an
in-depth exploration of self, society, sexuality and spirituality. We
provide a safe environment for young people to question, explore and
deepen
their experience of God. The youth groups are built around three phases
of
development, each encompassing two years: Rite-13, J2A, and YAC.
The youth groups, led by volunteer adults and church staff, meet at
9:30
a.m. Sundays. In addition, the programs incorporate learning and
service
opportunities outside the church, including a monthly Sunday afternoon
or
evening fellowship activity.
Rite-13
This program begins anew every two years for parish young people entering
sixth and seventh grades. Rite-13 celebrates the gift of manhood and
womanhood, providing a safe haven for exploring new ideas, interests, and
abilities. By building a community which honors each individual's gifts
and talents, Rite-13 supports young people as they take the first steps of
passage away from their families and into their own lives.

J2A - Journey to Adulthood
This two-year program helps teenagers acquire the listening and
negotiation skills, assertiveness and leadership abilities that help in
managing adult responsibilities, while at the same time continuing the
in-depth exploration of self, society, sexuality, and spirituality that
began in Rite-13. During the second year of J2A, the youth prepare for
confirmation, each working with an adult mentor. At the program's
conclusion, the youth make a weeklong holy pilgrimage. Upon their return,
St. Augustine’s recognizes them as young adults.
YAC
(Young Adults in the Church)
The older high school students at St. Augustine’s continue their spiritual
development by assisting during Sunday worship as lectors, ushers,
acolytes and chalice bearers; singing in the Adult Choir; and teaching
Church School. Some serve as youth members of the various committees and
commissions of the church. Despite busy schedules, these young people
continue to meet occasionally for fun and fellowship.
