Youth Christian Education

The Journey to Adulthood is St. Augustine’s program of spiritual formation for young people in 6th through 12th grades. Here we provide a safe environment for them to question, explore and deepen their experience of God. The youth groups meet at 9:30 a.m. Sundays and plan occasional opportunities for learning, service, and fun according to their interests.

Rite 13

Building a group with shared experiences and memories and establishing the church as a safe place to explore new ideas, interests, and abilities is the goal of Rite-13. The group focuses on celebrating the individuality of each young person and his or her creative potential. It is named for the rite of passage celebration in which the whole parish community honors the growth and maturation of our young people. In Rite-13 we discuss serious issues in a light-hearted way, have fun activities such as a lock-in, and participate in the CROP Hunger Walk. Rite 13 is for youth in 6th and 7th grade in 2010-11.  They meet at 9:15 Sunday morning in the Rite-13 room downstairs.

J2A

This two-year journey gives young people a place to explore their faith, doubts, and hopes while engaging them in the leadership skills and critical thinking involved in adulthood. During the second year of J2A they prepare for Confirmation, each working with a mentor who helps them consider what it means to be an adult Christian living out our baptismal covenant in the world. Finally, the youth plan and embark on a pilgrimage together, seeking God in new ways and places. J2A is for youth in 8th and 9th grade in 2010-11.  They meet at 9:15 Sunday morning in the J2A room downstairs.

YAC

The most important role for YAC is to provide our older high school youth a safety zone in the midst of a demanding time in their lives. YACs, together with their group leader/mentors, set their own agenda and explore topics of interest and concern to them. As Young Adults in the Church, their participation in the full life of the parish is encouraged and welcomed. Many YACs are also lectors, chalice bearers, adult choir members, church school teachers, or serve on parish committees and commissions. YAC is for young adults in 10th, 11th and 12th grade in 2010-11.  YAC meets after church on Sunday mornings in the upstairs youth room.
