Get Involved

In this section you will find descriptions of the many ways to connect with the activities and groups that make St. Augustine's a vibrant community. Many of the descriptions include links that will guide you to pages containing more detailed information. Whether you are new to St. Augustine's or a long-time member eager to meet new people, you are welcome.

Belonging
The Social Committee plans many of the events that give us the opportunity to grow as a community: baptism receptions, pot-luck suppers, picnics, as well as events related to the Church Year, such as the Maundy Thursday agape meal and the Easter receptions.

The Newcomers Committee works in various ways (including our Greeters ministry) to welcome people who are new to St. Augustine's and to help incorporate them into the parish community.

The Plant Sale in May is a great community-building and fund-raising event for the parish as well as a well-known event in Wilmette. Whether you are a skilled gardener or you don't know an annual from a perennial, there are opportunities for everyone to be involved. Click here for more information.

Worshipping
Around the Altar. At St. Augustine's, our worship is liturgical, which literally means "the work of the people." Click here to see the variety of talents and interests, from Acolyting to Ushering, which create joyful worship together.

Singers and musicians, of all ages and levels of experience, are welcome. Click here for our Music pages.

Sharing
Spiritual Small Groups
foster spiritual development, fellowship, and pastoral care. Groups form around a particular topic or interest and meet as often and for as long a commitment as decided by the members. Groups we have had in the past include Contemporary Theology, Forgiveness, Spirituality, and a Movie Group.

St. Mary's Guild, open to all women in the parish, meets monthly for interesting programs and fellowship.

Downtown Lunch Club (hosted on a rotating basis by members who work downtown) and the North Shore Lunch Bunch (bring your brown-bag lunch to St A's) meet once a month for a casual, agenda-free conversation.

St. A's Spiritual Sisters and Men's Spiritual Friends meet on Saturday mornings once a month for sharing, and prayer, and fellowship.

Bible Study Group meets Tuesday afternoons to focus on a selected book from the Bible or a particular biblical theme. Click here to learn about current and recent topics.

Children's Programs: If you never thought you were a "Sunday School Teacher," take a look at our new Rotation Workshops which use a variety of media and interests to help our children explore the great stories of our faith. Talk with our Director of Christian Education and see how your interests, hobbies, vocations or avocations might match up with some of our upcoming topics.
