For parents of children thinking about joining choir
- Choir is fun!
- Young people who are involved in a liturgical ministry such as the choir feel more engaged in Sunday worship and usually look forward to attending church.
- Children learn a great deal about the Christian faith while singing in the choir, often in greater depth than they would in Church School alone. We talk about the texts we sing and how our hymns relate to the biblical stories we will hear on Sunday. We also discuss our liturgy and the church year.
- All baptized Christians, including children, are called to ministry – to serve God and one another -- and singing in a choir is one way to do ministry. The ministry of the choir is to lead the assembly in congregational song.
- The choir provides a way of living in Christian community. Since the young people and adults sing together on Sundays, this is one of the few regular, multi-generational activities available to children, both within the parish and outside it.
- Choir members occasionally get to ring handbells together. Children see this as a big responsibility and appreciate the sense of drama and festivity in the liturgy.

Who can join the Choir?
-
Our youngest singers are normally in second or third grade. The singers have a wide variety of other interests such as theatre and athletics.
What sort of commitment is this for me and my child?
- Choir rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7:15 p.m. with the understanding that students may leave the rehearsal early if their schedules require.
- We often rehearse music for several weeks in advance, so attendance at rehearsal is helpful even when you know you will be away on the following Sunday.
- On Sunday mornings, choir members gather at 8:30 am to rehearse. Younger choir members leave to attend Church School or Youth Groups at at 9:10 a.m. returning to rejoin the others when they enter with their friends prior to the exchange of the Peace.
- On those occasional Sundays when there is no Church School, all choir members sing the entire service.
- We understand that some members can only join us on a seasonal basis due to other commitments such as athletics. We welcome them for any portion of the year that they are able to attend.
- Some parents decide to join the choir, too, attending rehearsal as their children's schedules allow them.
