The Rev. Nadia Stefko, Rector

Nadia began as Rector of St. Augustine's in February 2020. She was ordained to the priesthood in 2016, after a decade working in faith-based advocacy, communications, and organic vegetable farming.

Nadia’s faith journey is deeply informed and enriched by her relationship with the soil--the rich, fragrant, messy, living stuff out of which God created us and feeds us, and where God promises to return (with) us. She is fascinated by all the different ways God gives us to grow together in Christian community.

Nadia received her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and her M.Div. from the University of Chicago Divinity School. She shares life with her husband and their two young daughters. Email contact: nadia.stefko@staschurch.org

The Rev. Sue Nebel, Deacon

Sue has served as deacon at St. Augustine’s since 2015. Ordained in 1998, Sue soon embarked on a special ministry as a “vagabond deacon,” serving in parishes that did not have a deacon for two or three years to give people the experience of having a deacon serving in their midst. She also teaches about what it means to serve as a deacon through presentations and conversation with people who are interested. She supervised and taught in the Diocese of Chicago’s formation program for prospective deacons. She has also served on the Commission on Ministry and the Deacons’ Leadership Team. She began her professional career as an academic, teaching at Loyola University for 19 years. She then worked in the fields of career development, social ministry, not-for-profit fundraising; and finally, as a hospice chaplain for 10 years until she retired in 2014. She has a B.A. from Albion College, an M.A. from the University of Colorado, a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, as well as an M.Div. from the former Seabury Western Theological Seminary. She lives in Wilmette. Email contact: s-hnebel@comcast.net.

In 1998 Theresa answered an ad for a p/t parish secretary at an Episcopal church in Cincinnati and there she found her calling….and eventually her new church home. After working there for 13 years, she then worked for 3 years as the office manager of an Episcopal church in Boston. She loves working in the Episcopal church and is thrilled to be at St. A’s.
