We believe that children come to us with innate wisdom and knowledge of God--it is our job to provide them with opportunities to explore and express this relationship.
St. Augustine’s strives to create an environment where kids:
Experience a Sense of Belonging
Seek Meaningful Connections
Feel Valued as a Beloved Child of God Just As They Are
Have Opportunities to Worship, Learn, Question, Reflect and Serve
Are Empowered to Become Christ’s Hands and Heart in the World
How We Engage
Children’s Chapel (preschool through 1st grade)
During Children’s Chapel, children experience the rhythm and wonder of worship as they gather for songs, storytelling, reflection, and creative response. Rooted in the Godly Play model, Children’s Chapel invites young worshippers to wonder, reflect, and engage deeply with Bible stories and liturgical actions through art, movement, and play.
Offered weekly September through May during worship. Children are dismissed following the Opening Collect and return to the nave during the Peace.
Sunday School (2nd-5th grade)
Children in Sunday School read from the Bible, connect Bible stories to their daily lives, and deepen their relationships with God through reflection questions, activities, art projects, and service. St. A’s integrates a variety of curricula from resources like Shine, Illustrated Ministry, Godly Play and Godly Quest, and the Episcopal Church’s Lesson Plans that Work.
Offered weekly September through May during worship. Children are dismissed following the Opening Collect and return to the nave during the Peace.
Youth Sunday School and Youth Group (6-12th grade)
Youth in junior high and high school meet twice a month to connect for Bible study, service work, social gatherings, and outings. Youth Sunday School explores Christian faith and living through Scripture, spiritual practices, and service and action. Because Youth Sunday School is integrated with Youth Group (see below), youth build deep relationships with one another, encounter a sense of belonging, and find a safe space to ask questions and explore their faith.
Offered twice a month from September through May. Typically, the first Sunday of the month is for Youth Sunday School which meets from 11-11:45 a.m. following the service. The third Sunday is typically reserved for social gatherings, outings, and service projects. Time varies upon activity. Please subscribe to our Family Newsletter for more information about upcoming Youth Group events by reaching out to Shannon.Page@staschurch.org.
Nursery Care (infants through preschool)
From September through May, our Nursery is staffed with professional caregivers. Our youngest infants and children have a safe place to wiggle and explore. The nursery is also available if you and your child need a quiet space to reset for any reason. We broadcast the livestream of our service into the nursery, so parents can accompany their children without missing worship.
Confirmation (7-9th grade)
Confirmation is offered every other year for youth who feel called to a mature commitment of their faith and explore more deeply what it means to follow Jesus.
Confirmation will be offered in the 2026-2027 program year. For more information, please contact Shannon Page.
Intergenerational Worship
Children are always welcome in worship and encouraged to participate fully just as they are. St. A’s strives to make worship fully intergenerational and includes ways for children and youth to engage meaningfully in worship alongside adults.
Worship activity bags with children’s bulletins and quiet puzzles are available at both entrances to the nave. Ask an usher if you need help finding them.
Youth are encouraged to help lead worship as lectors, acolytes, tech team assistants, and more.
Each quarter, children and youth learn a choral anthem during Sunday School that they offer during worship alongside the St. A’s Choir.
We offer several special liturgies throughout the year—Christmas Eve, Epiphany, St. Nicholas Day, Holy Week, Pentecost—that intentionally engage young worshipers through movement, action, and participation.
